Netflix announced Wednesday it would be releasing a series centered on the origin of music-streaming service Spotify.
The story will be based on the book Spotify Untold, according to Pitchfork.
According to the statement released by Netflix, the show will follow Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon as they seek to solve issues, such as piracy, that were prevalent in the music industry in the early 2000s.
“It is a story about how hard convictions, unrelenting will, access and big dreams can help small players challenge the status quo by evolving the way we can listen to music,” the statement said.
According to Deadline, the series will be directed by Per-Olav Sørensen. Yellow Bird UK will also aid in the development of the show, while Berna Levin and Luke Franklin will serve as executive producer and producer, respectively.
“The founding tale of Spotify is a great example of how a local story can have a global impact,” said Tesha Crawford, the Netflix director of international originals in Northern Europe. “We are really excited about bringing this success story to life and we look forward to continuing our great collaboration with director Per-Olav Sørensen and the team at Yellow Bird UK.”
I guess now all we’re really missing in our streaming-obsessed world is “Netflix: The Musical.”
