SALT LAKE CITY — Comedian Adam Sandler returned to NBC’s Saturday Night Live to host on May 4, bringing back some of his classic jokes — along with the memory of his former castmate and friend, Chris Farley.
After resurrecting his Opera Man character and joking about his original firing in 1995, according to The New York Times, the comedian closed the show by performing a song about Farley, who died in 1997 at the age of 33 following a drug overdose.
Sandler, who starred alongside Farley in film and television, sung about Farley’s larger-than-life presence on and offscreen, his faith and struggles with substance abuse. Sandler also sang Farley was the “funniest guy I ever knew” and wishes his friend was still with him.
SNL’s official account shared the song, which has more than 7 million views. Other Twitter users commented on the post, thanking Sandler and sharing their personal feelings and memories about Farley.
