Snow College wide receiver Jonah Trinnaman made it sound like he is awfully close to committing to BYU.
The former American Fork High standout said in a recent video interview posted by scout.com’s Doug Kimmel that BYU has always been a dream of his.
“I always grew up going to BYU games with my grandfather and my dad, so it was pretty big for me to get offers from BYU,” he said in the video.
Trinnaman has offers from Oregon State, as well as Utah, and is getting some interest from Oregon. But he made it clear that he was heavily leaning toward the Cougars, with one of the reasons being so his family can easily watch him.
“Being out (at Snow College) makes me realize that I want family to come see me and play and grow as a football player,” Trinnaman said.
Trinnaman told Kimmel that Oregon had recently started recruiting him, but even the allure of the Ducks might not be enough to keep him from Provo.
“I would definitely consider them,” Trinnaman said about Oregon. “But right now I am focusing on BYU.”
Trinnaman had 363 yards receiving and caught six touchdowns last season.
Weddle disrespected
Former Ute Eric Weddle is having some trouble with his current club, the San Diego Chargers.
The all-pro safety is upset that the club hasn’t engaged him in talks about a contract extension, and because of it missed the team’s first voluntary workout.
"I feel highly, highly disrespected," Weddle told the U-T San Diego. "... It is what it is, but there is no reason for me to put out any more effort.”
Though the workouts are voluntary, in years past Weddle has consistently been involved with his teammates as they began prepping for the upcoming year.
“I've never missed a day in my life. I've given so much,” he said.
Weddle’s contract is set to expire following the 2015 season.
Nate Orchard gets some press from potential new homes
The NFL Draft is a mere nine days away, and former Utah defensive end Nate Orchard continues to get some press.
The Chicago Sun-Times wrote about how Orchard ended up switching from wide receiver to defensive end. During his first week of practice as a freshman, Utah coach Kyle Whittingham pulled him aside and said if he put on 60 pounds, he could make it to the next level.
“I’m the type of person that believes the coach and what he’s preaching. He’s a man that has years of years under his belt and has coached guys into the NFL,” Orchard said in the article.
The Kansas City Star also did a piece about Orchard’s unique path to the NFL, which didn’t just include a position change, but a name change as well.
