SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Gary Herbert last week was awarded the Daughters of the American Revolution’s Distinguished Citizen Medal.

The award is given to those who demonstrate exemplary objectives regarding the security, safety and well-being of citizens.

In presenting the award, Susan Holt, state regent of the Utah State Society Daughters of the American Revolution, cited a wide range of measures Herbert has backed that aim to ensure the safety of Utah students from physical, emotional and mental harm.

The DAR also cited his efforts in boosting cybersecurity across the state.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. Its members are descendants from patriots who fought or provided aid during the Revolutionary War. With more than 186,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is the world’s largest female genealogical and service organization.
