ZION NATIONAL PARK — Park officials announced Friday the Upper Emerald Pool Trail, which was closed in July 2018 after a severe thunderstrom, has been reopened.
The trail can only be accessed through the Kayenta Trail from shuttle stop 6, The Grotto. If hiking both, visitors can expect a 3-mile and 2.5-hour round trip. Both hikes are moderate, unpaved, with some drop-offs. There is no access to Zion Lodge or Lower Emerald Pool Trail from Upper Emerald Pool or Kayenta Trails at this time.
Park officials also noted several trails — Weeping Rock, Hidden Canyon and East Rim near shuttle stop 7 — remain closed. Shuttle stop 7 also remains closed with no access to Observation Point from Zion Canyon. The trails were closed due to damage from recent rockfalls and storms.
