GameStop is now reportedly offering full refunds to people who bought the controversial video game Cyberpunk 2077, Kotaku reports.
What’s happening:
An internal memo from within GameStop — which was obtained by Kotaku — revealed that GameStop employees can accept Cyberpunk 2077 returns on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, even if the game has been opened.
- The employees have been asked to label the game “defective” before sending it back to the GameStop warehouse.
GameStop has normally only accepted unopened products for refunds. Products that have been opened are usually traded-in for store credit.

Last week, Sony decided to pull Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store after major backlash from fans. The game has had a number of graphic issues on older consoles. The game would freeze. In-game textures wouldn’t load correctly, either.
- “It’s not an easy call, but they have made the right move,” Steve Bailey, principal analyst for games at tech research firm Omdia, told CNBC. “This title has been removed out of fear of not just consumers upset with a game’s quality, but potential damage to the console brand.”
