“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” will be coming to Disney Plus in less than a week, bringing the final episode of the Skywalker Saga to millions of homes.

  • “The Rise of Skywalker” — the ninth film in the Skywalker Saga of “Star Wars” films — will drop on Disney Plus on May 4.

For “Star Wars” fans, May 4 is often considered “May the 4th,” or “Star Wars Day,” where fans across the world celebrate the franchise.

  • Some fans consider the next day, May 5, as “Revenge of the Fifth” — a reference to the “Star Wars” film “Revenge of the Sith.

Why it matters:

  • The addition of “Rise of Skywalker” means the entire Skywalker Saga of “Star Wars” films will be available on Disney Plus. The streaming service is home to other “Star Wars” side projects like “The Mandalorian,” “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars Rebels” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”

About ‘Rise of Skywalker’

“Rise of Skywalker,” which was released in December 2019, finished off the Skywalker Saga. The reaction to the film was mixed, to say the least. Critics slammed the film, which ended up with a 52% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 483 reviews). Conversely, the film received an 86% score from audiences (based on more than 98,000 reviews).

The film highlighted an ongoing battle within the “Star Wars” community. As I reported for the Deseret News, the film was the latest reason for “Star Wars” fans to battle over which film is best.
