After one of the best seasons by a wide receiver this year, Utah State’s Deven Thompkins is ready for the next level.

Thompkins declared for the 2022 NFL draft on Thursday night, announcing his intentions on Twitter.

“After long talks with my family and God I have decided that I will be taking the next step in my career and start preparing for the NFL draft,” Thompkins wrote.

Thompkins ranks second among all wide receivers in the nation in receiving yards this season. He was named an Associated Press Third-Team All-American

The 5-8, 155-pound receiver caught 102 passes for 1,704 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. He had 100 or more receiving yards in nine games and had a 215-yard receiving game against New Mexico State.

Former USU quarterback Chuckie Keeton, who was an offensive graduate assistant in 2018 and is now the running backs coach at Utah State, chimed in with praise for Tompkins.

“Got to know this young dude when he was a baby in 2018. The progress and determination he’s continued to show since those 1st instances give me full confidence that he’s going to reach that next level and make an impact,” Keeton wrote.
