Disney+ shared the first trailer for “Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings” on Monday, giving us a glance at another new Marvel project.

  • The new trailer debuted on actor Simu Liu’s birthday. Liu stars as the main character Shang-Chi.

The film will follow Shang-Chi, “who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization,” according to a Disney+ press release.

  • The film’s cast includes Tony Leung as Wenwu, Awkwafina as Katy and Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan. Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng will also star in the film.
  • “Shang-Chi” is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.

‘Shang-Chi’ is about family

Cretton told The Hollywood Reporter back in January 2020 that the story will be one for families, and it will give children a new superhero who might not be well known.

  • “I grew up without a superhero to look up to,” he said. “I gravitated to Spider-Man when I was a kid, primarily because he had a mask covering his face and I could imagine myself under that mask. I would love to give my son a superhero to look up to. I feel very privileged to be a part of telling that story.”

Cretton told the “They Call Us Bruce” podcast that the film will have a lot of family vibes, saying “the ideas of camaraderie, family and connection is something that will definitely be a part of this movie.”
