On Sunday night, director Chloé Zhao won the award for best director for the film “Nomadland,” and it was a historic win as she became the first Asian woman and first woman of color to win the award at the Oscars.

Zhao will be the director for the upcoming Marvel project “Eternals,” a film about a race of immortal creatures who helped shape the events of Earth.

  • And so, the victory on Sunday night makes Zhao the first Marvel director to have received an Oscar award before their Marvel film drops, according to Fandango.
  • “Chloé Zhao is also the first best director winner to have a Marvel movie already completed by the time she won the award,” Fandango reports.
  • Marvel’s “Eternals” will be released on Nov. 5, 2021.

After the Oscar victory, Marvel fans cheered on Zhao and Marvel for the victory. Fans specifically celebrated the idea of the “Eternals” trailer featuring the fact that Zhao is an Oscar winner.

Zhao told Variety she was really excited to get working on “Eternals” because of its story and its possibilities.

  • “I have been a fan of the MCU for the last decade. So, I put the word out there I wanted to make a Marvel movie and the right project came to me,” Zhao told Variety.
