“Venom: Let There Be Carnage” — the sequel to the “Venom” film — released its first trailer Monday morning, giving us our first look at the Marvel villain Carnage, a classic Spider-Man villain.

  • The trailer shows Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) at peace with his second personality/symbiote, Venom, which is a difference from the original film when the two were at odds.
  • It also shows Brock meeting with Carnage, played by Woody Harrelson. Carnage is a massive villain from the Spider-Man comics.

Sony released the new title for the film in April 2020, along with a new release date because of the coronavirus pandemic. “Let There Be Carnage” originally was picked to be released Oct. 2, 2020, but was moved to June 25, 2021. The film was moved again to Sept. 24, 2021.

  • The decision to move the film came as other studios moved their movies to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

There have been rumors that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will appear in “Venom 2.” This is a part of the Sony and Disney’s deal with Spider-Man and the MCU. But Sony struck a deal with Netflix for its content to go on Netflix instead of Disney+.
