Spider-Man could possibly appear in the upcoming “Venom 2” film. Or, he might not. It remains unclear.

What’s going on: Sony Pictures issued a “no comment” response to Discussing Film about the potential of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man appearing in “Venom 2.”

  • “Just a tiny update regarding the Tom Holland/Spider - Venom 2 news. Before the holidays, asked Sony reps on if they had a comment on the story, just got a response today which was they have no comment for now,” wrote Cinematic Banter on Twitter after asking the question to Sony. “Make of this as you will but in my experience, it typically means the story as it stands is likely true”

What it means: No comment means there’s no comment. So, no, there’s not any huge news here.

However: Per ComicBook.com, “Traditional movie studio practice is to knock down Internet rumors that are completely unfounded and how no hope of being true, while more sensitive or fluid matters get the ‘no comment’ treatment. That’s not to say Sony is keeping a secret about Holland’s cameo; it just means that rumors of talks about Spider-Man appearing in Venom 2 now have more validity.”

Flashback: Questions about Holland’s possible appearance in “Venom 2” began after talks between Marvel and Sony about Holland’s Spider-Man future broke down. Since Sony owns the movie rights for the Spider-Man character, there was a long-held rumor that Spider-Man would appear in the “Venom” sequel. Those questions remain in the air.
