Warning: This article contains spoilers from “Loki” Episode 3 — “Lamentis.”

“Loki” told us something about the Time Variance Authority in its most recent episode that should make us question how much we trust it.

What ‘Loki’ revealed about the TVA

We learned in “Loki” Episode 3 — titled “Lamentis” — that the Time Variance Authority isn’t all that it seems. For example, Loki tells Sylvie he knows the TVA was created by the Time Keepers. But then Sylvie tells Loki that the TVA is made up of variants — working for the Time Keepers.

The latest ‘Loki’ episode is not a filler. It’s probably the most important episode to date

This is a big stray from what we thought before. We’ve been told by Agent Mobius that the TVA served the Time Keepers and that was its sole purpose. Now, we’re seeing they had another role to play.

Are the Time Keepers variants of Loki?

Stay with us on this one. IGN reports there are Loki Variants who have taken on the Time Keeper role. That’s right. The all-knowing, all-seeing Time Keepers are actually variants of Loki.

The theory posits that the Time Keepers wipe out all the Loki variants because they know Loki wants to overtake the Time Keepers.

  • “We assume that the TVA actually has other Variants they’re tracking down. Ones that aren’t Lokis. But ... do they?” IGN asks. “We’ve seen one arrested, back in the first episode, bragging about how his father was on the board of Goldman Sachs. The character’s name is Martin and ... remember his hair? It was basically Loki’s hair.”

That’s right. In the opening episode, another variant named Martin is captured and then vaporized. He did look similar to Loki, though.

That said, there are a number of other possibilities for the Time Keepers, including one theory that one of them is the Marvel villain Kang the Conquerer. So, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
