Simone Biles pulled out of the team finals for Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics Tuesday after slipping during a vault attempt.

USA Olympics released a statement about Biles’ withdrawal from the team final, according to The Washington Post.

  • “Simone has withdrawn from the team final competition due to a medical issue,” the organization said in a statement. “She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions.”

Why did Simone Biles drop out of the Olympics?

Per The New York Times, Biles said she pulled out of the Olympics event because she wasn’t in the right mental space to perform. She said she was feeling too much pressure to perform.

  • “She had been struggling with the stress of being the greatest gymnast in history, she said, and outside expectations were just too hard to combat,” according to The New York Times.

Biles said she is unsure whether she would compete again at the Tokyo Games. The next possible event for her could be the all-around final on Thursday.

Per ESPN, Biles night ended after the one vault. Biles appeared to slip during the vault and almost landed on her knees as she attempted an Amanar vault, according to Fox News. She finished with a 13.66 score.

She sat down with her trainer and shook her head, saying she was fine before she left the arena.

Jordan Chiles replaced Biles on the uneven bars competition. All went well for Team USA soon after as three hit their routines.

  • “With Biles out of the competition, the U.S. team showed nerves of steel on bars, with three hit routines,” according to ESPN.

ROC beat the United States for the women’s gymnastics team title at Tokyo Olympics. The USA took home the silver medal for the competition.
