Cracker Barrel’s short-lived rebrand sparked one of the internet’s loudest food fights this summer. After unveiling a fresh new logo just weeks ago, the restaurant chain faced swift backlash from loyal fans and quickly promised that its iconic “Old Timer” would stay.
Now, Cracker Barrel is backtracking on more than just the logo.
On Tuesday, the company announced it is halting interior remodels across its restaurants, after weeks of pushback from customers.
“With our recent announcement that our ‘Old Timer’ logo will remain, along with our bigger focus in the kitchen and on your plate, we hope that today’s step reinforces that we hear you,” executives said in a statement.

What the remodels changed
The redesigns first debuted last August on Instagram, showing off a brighter, more open layout with updated seating, lighting and shelving. Signature touches like oversized stone fireplaces remained, but the country-store feel was toned down.
“New look, same Cracker Barrel! We can’t wait for you to visit,” the company wrote in the Instagram caption.
As of Sept. 9, only four of the chain’s 660 restaurants have received the update the company shared.
Financial impact
The brand whiplash hasn’t gone unnoticed on Wall Street. Cracker Barrel’s stock has fallen about 8.5% since the rebrand backlash began, according to NBC News. But after announcing the return of the old logo, shares spiked more than 8% in a single day, per CNBC.
Public reactions
The backlash grew so large that even President Donald Trump weighed in, congratulating the company on Truth Social for “changing your logo back.” He later posted an AI-generated video of himself shaking hands with the “Old Timer” on X.
The pause has earned Cracker Barrel both praise and criticism — fans say it shows the company is listening, but critics argue it’s just a cosmetic change that ignores bigger concerns.
