Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the country’s top infectious disease experts, recently told CNN there are two things that can stop another surge of COVID-19.
Fauci said there are two things Americans can do to stop deaths, hospitalizations and a climb in COVID-19 cases.
- “A, you keep pushing down and doubling down on public health measures and B, you do whatever you can to get as many people vaccinated as quickly and as expeditiously as possible,” he told CNN over the weekend.
Fauci said that health experts want people to double down on health measures right now.
- “We say it over and over again and we need the local people, we need the governors and the mayors and others to be able to say, ‘We’re not out of it yet,’” Fauci told CNN. “People say, ‘Well you just want to confine us forever.’ No, this is not going to last forever because every day that you get four million, three million people vaccinated, you get closer and closer to control.”
Fourth wave of COVID-19
Axios reported that the United States may soon face a fourth wave of COVID-19. Experts seem to agree that the new wave will focus on younger people since 75% of older Americans have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
- Former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb told CBS’s “Face the Nation over the weekend: “If you look what’s happening in Michigan, in Minnesota, in Massachusetts, for example, you’re seeing outbreaks in schools and infections in social cohorts that haven’t been exposed to the virus before.”
