SALT LAKE CITY — Indoors or outdoors, nighttime or daytime, kind of quiet or insanely loud — when it comes to activities in Utah, there’s a little bit of everything this weekend.
We’ve got our sights on Sundance Resort, which is hosting full moon lift rides. Downtown’s Organ Loft also revives some Buster Keaton classics for its season kickoff, Festa Italiana returns to the Gateway and monster trucks come roaring through Days of ’47 Arena as part of the Utah State Fair.
Oh, and “Star Trek.” The series’ original big screen offering, “Star Trek: The Motion Picture,” returns to select theaters for some special 40th anniversary screenings. Read on for details.
‘The Art of Buster Keaton’
The Organ Loft kicks off its new season with an evening dedicated to comedy legend and silent film pioneer Buster Keaton. According to the event organizers, this won’t just be an evening of Buster Keaton shorts. As for what it entails exactly, they haven’t said yet. Full moon lift ride
A new full moon is upon us. Celebrate the lunar majesty at Sundance Resort, which will host scenic lift rides for three consecutive nights. Here’s hoping for clear skies. Festa Italiana
Who doesn’t love Italian food? And how do we stay as far away from them as possible? Festa Italiana, a local celebration of Italian food, art and culture, returns for its fifth year. Proceeds from the festival will go to Catholic Community Services to support their homeless and refugee outreach services. ‘Star Trek: The Motion Picture’ 40th anniversary
A staple of sci-fi cinema came to theaters 40 years ago, and we were never the same. To date, “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” remains the highest-grossing film in the “Star Trek” franchise when adjusted for inflation. To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Fathom Events brings the original theatrical cut to select theaters. Monster Truck Insanity Tour
End your weekend with a bang — like, a really, really loud bang. Legendary monster truck Bigfoot will be at the Days of ’47 Arena for the Monster Truck Insanity Tour. Though the show doesn’t start till 6 p.m., there’s a pit party from 4:30-5:30 p.m. for all ticket holders. Maybe bring earplugs.
