The U.S. Secret Service confirmed it is aware of a video broadcast by Iranian state media that appears to threaten the life of Barron Trump, President Donald Trump’s youngest son.
“The U.S. Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees,” Secret Service spokesman Nate Herring said in a statement to CNN, which first reported the Secret Service was aware of the threat. “Out of concern for operational security, we do not discuss matters of protective intelligence.”
The video begins with a graphic that reads “Where to kill Barron Trump?!” followed by graphics showing locations frequented by the younger Trump, including places in New York near where the 20-year-old attends school at the Stern School of Business at New York University.
Near the video’s end, the narrator suggests people were “eagerly waiting to receive our $10 million reward,” CNN reported.
The video was broadcast by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, a state-run media corporation considered to be aligned with hard-liners in the Iranian regime.
Similar videos have been broadcast targeting President Trump and members of his family, according to Iran International, but the threat against Barron Trump appears to be the first time Barron has been targeted individually.
Threats to the first family have intensified since U.S. strikes against Iran led to the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Last month, a billboard in Enghelab Square in central Tehran depicted President Trump in a coffin. A separate billboard in central Tehran depicted President Trump and his family members in coffins draped in the American flag.
