The Egg and Ice Cream were unmasked Wednesday night during “The Masked Singer” second season premiere.
What happened: “The Masked Singer” returned to the TV airwaves Wednesday night, kicking off the show’s second season after a year of viral fame. Two stars were unmasked during the event, according to Billboard.
Round 1: The Egg was the first masked competitor to be revealed. Four contestants competed during the show’s first half. Butterfly, Egg, Skeleton and Thingamajig all battled. Skeleton and Egg lost their respective matches to Butterfly and Thingamajig. Skeleton won out. So the Egg had to reveal himself after the next round of competitions.
Round 2: In the second round, Ladybug, Tree, Rottweiler and Ice Cream all competed in the second round, Rottweiler took down Ladybug and Tree beat Ice Cream. In the next match, Ladybug creamed Ice Cream, sending the latter into the reveal stage.
Egg: The Egg unmasked himself and was revealed to be Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir.
- “I have such a new appreciation for what it takes to sing and dance,” Weir said, according to Entertainment Weekly. “We do, like, 45 seconds, but to remember a whole concert, all those steps, all those lyrics, make sure your voice is right, so much renewed appreciation for singers and songwriters.”
Ice Cream: The Ice Cream singer revealed himself to be Ninja, the famous professional video game star.
- “I just wanted to step outside of my comfort zone,” Ninja said, according to Entertainment Weekly. “My wife and I loved the season last year, so when the opportunity presented itself, we’re like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it,’” he said. He noted that clues the judges and viewers may have missed included streamers and his signature handclap at the end of his performance.
