Post Malone kicked off his new album “Hollywood’s Bleeding” with a little message about Utah.
Malone — real name Austin Post — explains in a brief clip (found through Spotify’s Enhanced Album feature) that his new album centers on how Hollywood isn’t as clean and chill as it used to be. Rather, it’s full of vampires, he said, who want to take everything from you.
“I finally made the move out of LA and I moved to Utah. I feel like in LA and Hollywood there’s such a strange vibe to where there’s a lot of vampires,” he said.
And that’s all why he decided to move to Utah. He recently told Variety that the state helps him feel better about his anxiety, freeing him from the stress and worries that come from the celebrity life.
“I’d say since the beginning of middle school, I always felt like I was always anxious and kind of sad all the time, but I kind of came out of it,” he told Variety. “Being in Utah and being away from the grind and from everybody else and it’s just me with my video games and cold one that feels good to me.”
He said Utah is an “oasis” away from Hollywood. He said he’s “sick of” Los Angeles and the vibe it brings him.
“I feel like a lot of people want to be somebody. They’ll use every piece, last piece they can get out of you to better themselves and not think about anybody else.”
Utah even gets a reference on Post Malone’s new album in the song “Wow.”
“Everywhere I go (Hey). Catch me on the block like I’m Mutumbo (Wow). 750 Lambo in the Utah snow (Skrrt),” he sings.
Malone told Rolling Stone back in 2015 that he bought a $3 million ranch in Northern Utah because of the freedom the area provides him.
“It’s free country out there,” Malone said of Utah and its gun laws. “Like, you can buy suppressors in Utah. You can do open-carry. Walk into the grocery store with a handgun on your hip. Cowboy (expletive). I can’t wait.”
In fact, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office warned Utah residents against visiting the star too much, according to the Deseret News.
“Yes, he is here in the county. But, he is just on vacation. No, he is not performing at the high school game tonight or does he have any involvements with the game,” the office said in a Facebook post.
But, the office said, Malone “has been very kind and respectful to all who have talked to him.”
“Our office will enforce those who want to trespass on the residence he is staying at, he is just a guy trying to enjoy his vacation. We just wanted to help stop some rumors we have heard,” the office said.
Since then, Post Malone has popped up now and again across the state. Malone was spotted at the Salt Lake City Target store back in Christmas 2018, too, according to the Deseret News.
“Post was the beneficiary of the last-minute sales and plunked down more than $200 on stuff,” according to TMZ. “(Two-hundred dollars) doesn’t sound like a lot ... but it looks like he hit a bull’s-eye to land what he needed before Xmas.”
And, earlier this year, he appeared at Mr. Charlie’s Chicken Fingers.
