A horror superhero movie? That’s what we’re expecting from “The New Mutants,” the new X-Men spinoff filmed that released its trailer Monday morning.

What happened: The new trailer for the upcoming filmed found its way online Monday morning.

  • “The New Mutants” has been in development for five years. Reshoots and delays halted the film from a release. Disney’ purchase of 20th Century Fox also caused a holdup for the film.
  • “Cast member changes, script rewrites, extensive reshoots and the aforementioned Disney acquisition moved everything back throughout the years,” according to The Verge.
  • But the film is almost here. The new trailer shows director Josh Boone’s new vision for the film, which looks to be a superhero movie with a horror film twist.

What’s it about: The new movie is “an original horror thriller set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring,” according to the description on the trailer’s YouTube page. The team of mutants will team up to survive the hospital together.

Is it in the MCU?: Don’t expect to see Captain America, Scarlett Witch or Deadpool pop up in this film. Per MCU Cosmic reporter Jeremy Conrad, Marvel has its own vision for how to include mutant characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

  • This film will be the end of the 20th Century Fox run of X-Men films.
