“The Masked Singer” unveiled another competitor Wednesday night, and none of the judges guessed the right answer.
What happened:
- Wednesday night featured the Group B playoffs for “The Masked Singer,” pitting the Serpent, the Crocodile, the Baby Alien, the Seahorse. and Whatchamacallit against each other.
- Baby Alien was eliminated at the end of the night. He sang Imagine Dragons’ “It’s Time,” but it wasn’t enough to send him through.
What were the guesses?
According to Variety, judges had a number of guesses for who was behind the mask, including:
- “Karate Kid” Ralph Macchio
- Nick Kroll
- “Friends” stars Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer
- Freddie Prinze Jr.
- “American Pie” star Jason Biggs
All of the guesses were wrong.
Who was the Baby Alien?
It turns out Baby Alien was former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez.
- “We thought you were, like, some superstar comedian. … When did you become a puppet master? Did it mess up the quarterback arm?” host Nick Cannon asked, according to USA Today.
- “My arm kept cramping up here, and then Ken talks for an hour and a half,” Sanchez said.
He said the best part of being on the show was sharing it with his son.
- “He knows the words to ‘Faith’ now,” Sanchez said. “He knows the words to ‘It’s Time,’ by Imagine Dragons. So we’ve been rocking out in the car. It’s been really fun.”

Sanchez told Variety it was weird having a costume with a puppet, too.
- “I think that needed somebody that was big enough and strong enough to handle the weight of the costume,” Sanchez said. “Because after wearing it for a while, it wears on you a little bit. It’s like 40 pounds. And it positions itself on your upper chest area and lower back and shoulders, so they needed somebody with some broad shoulders to handle it. I was their guy and it worked out well.”
What’s next?
- Group C will begin on Oct. 28 at 8 p.m. ET.
