“Star Wars: The High Republic” will be full of monsters and villains when it finally debuts this winter, and we got our first peek at those new villains on Thursday.

What’s going on?

StarWars.com released details about the new villains of the upcoming project “The High Republic,” which is a series of novels and comic books that take place 200 years before the prequel trilogy.

The villains include:

  • The Drengir — Amorphous beings with tentacles and teeth
  • The Nihil — Savage warriors who use chemical weapons and poison to kill their foes.
  • Marchion Ro — A member of the Nihil who holds an important post as the Eye of Nihil.

Key quote:

  • “One of the north stars for this initiative is to answer the question, ‘What scares the Jedi?’ Which is a really fun but extraordinarily challenging question to answer. All five authors, as well as the Story Group and Publishing teams, had thoughts on what would scare them — and why — but everyone agreed that had to be something new,” Lucasfilm Publishing creative director Michael Siglain told StarWars.com.
