McDonald’s sales rose in the third quarter after months of negative numbers, thanks, in part, to Travis Scott.
McDonald’s said it saw sales jump 4.6% in the three-month period that ended on Sept. 30 compared to the same time period in 2019, according to CNN.
- In the second quarter, McDonald’s saw sales drop 8.7 % at stores open for at least one year.
So what changed?
McDonald’s added the Travis Scott meal to its lineup, along with spicy chicken nuggets.
In early September, McDonald’s and Travis Scott teamed up for a celebrity meal — something that happened for the first time in 30 years, according to Deseret.com.
- The meal — a Quarter Pounder with cheese, bacon and lettuce, a medium fries with BBQ sauce and a Sprite — became a limited-time item that was difficult for some consumers to find.
- “We’ve created a program that’s so compelling to our customers that it’s stretching our world-class supply chain; and if demand continues at these levels, more restaurants will break supply,” McDonald’s said in a memo to employees, according to USA Today.
Back in August, McDonald’s added Spicy Chicken McNuggets, which was the company’s first new McNugget flavor in 40 years, as I wrote for Deseret.com.
