Some people are paying $10,000 to $32,000 for new PS5 and Xbox One X consoles
The PS5 and the Xbox Series X are now available if you can find them. And people are paying a premium for the consoles.
Video game fans across the world are spending thousands of dollars for the newest consoles, which normally sell for only hundreds.
The PlayStation 5 and the new Xbox Series X remain two of the most in-demand items this holiday season, as the consoles are hard to find due to limited supply. We often see this when new video game consoles drop online.
What’s going on?
The new PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X have risen in price on eBay, jumping into thousands of dollars, according to GameSpot.
- One listing for a PlayStation 5 sold for $14,493.
- Some eBay sellers are asking for $10,000 for a new console.
- Most sold listings show people paying more around the $1,000 mark for the new consoles.
- Other resellers are asking for up to $32,000, too, according to CBS News.
What’s the normal cost?
The PlayStation 5 sells for $500 for the disk edition and $400 for the digital-only version, The Xbox Series X sells for $500 at retail, and the S sells for $300. The latter is one of the cheapest consoles out there right now.
“A new console release is always exciting — it only happens every five to seven years. ... Their rollout was kind of messed up, although whenever a new console launches it’s a mess,” said Jordan Minor, a software and gaming analyst at PCMag, to CBS News.
