The latest “Star Wars” rumor suggests Grand Admiral Thrawn could soon appear in “The Mandalorian” and live-action properties in the near future.
Who is Grand Admiral Thrawn?
Thrawn has been a major villain in the “Star Wars” franchise since the ’90s. He was one of the first villains created from the expanded universe books, which were considered canon until Disney bought Lucasfilm. Later, the character was added into the “Star Wars Rebels” show, which brought him back into the storylines. Since then, there have been several books about the character, including the recent “Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendancy (Book I: Chaos Rising)” — written by Timothy Zahn.
The rumor:
Multiple outlets — We Got This Covered, Small Screen and Den Geek — have all hinted that the rumor might come to fruition and we might see Thrawn on the live-action screen sooner rather than later.
Lars Mikkelsen, who voiced the character in “Star Wars Rebels,” would likely play the role, according to Small Screen, which cited “multiple sources” who “have close ties to Lucasfilm” in its report.
The evidence:
Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) hinted at Thrawn’s appearance in the recent episode of “The Mandalorian,” titled “The Jedi.” Tano asked the Magistrate about Thrawn’s whereabouts, which was a slight hint at she is seeking him out, as was suggested at the end of “Star Wars Rebels.”
There’s also rumors of Tano getting her own spinoff series in the “Star Wars” universe, which we could learn more about Thursday. So it’s not totally out of the realm of possibility that the Tano-based show would include Thrawn in some capacity.
