“Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is working on a new project with Disney — and we just got our first look at what it will be.
Miranda is writing the music for a new animated film called “Encanto,” according to CNN.
“Encanto” will be set in Colombia, “where a magical family live in a magical home,” Disney tweeted on Thursday.
The movie is about a girl with a family that has magical powers but she does not, according to People magazine.
“Been working on this for nearly three years,” Miranda wrote of the new movie on Twitter. “So proud of this music and this story. Can’t wait to share more. Super super super orgulloso.”
The movie will include songs in both Spanish and English, according to CNN. It will be directed by “Zootopia” directors Bryan Howard and Jared Bush, and is co-written and co-directed by Charise Castro Smith.
Miranda revealed that he was working on a Disney movie set in Colombia earlier this year, though he said at the time that he was unable to give any details about the project.
“It’s set in Colombia, in Latin America, and that’s all I can say before Bob Iger just shows up in my home,” Miranda joked in an interview with “Good Morning America” in June.
This isn’t the first time Miranda has worked with Disney. He also wrote the music for the 2016 film “Moana,” and his song “How Far I’ll Go” was nominated an Academy Award for best original song, according to People. He also worked on 2019’s “Mary Poppins Returns.”
And of course, a filmed version of “Hamilton” starring Miranda debuted on Disney+ to great success over the summer.
“Encanto” is scheduled to come to theaters in November 2021.
