It looks like Pixar is planning a movie marathon event ahead of the release of “Onward.”
What’s going on?
- Megaplex Theatres is hosting a Pixar movie marathon ahead of the release of “Onward,” the company announced in a release to the Deseret News.
- “The extraordinary success of previous Megaplex movie marathons, including the recent Star Wars event, as well as the Marvel movie franchise, and other blockbuster films has solidified Utah’s reputation a great place to celebrate these amazing films,” said Blake Andersen, Megaplex Theatres president. “We are thrilled to serve as host for these special events that bring friends and families together to celebrate great stories.”
- “Utah movie fans have a special connection to Pixar since these films exist thanks to the pioneering efforts of University of Utah alumni Ed Catmull, who recently retired as president of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios,” said Andersen.
Other theaters are hosting too:

Some context
- Movie marathons are all the rage right now, and I have a history of covering them.
- I previously sat through 61.5 hours of Marvel movies for the release of “Avengers: Endgame.” The marathon included 22 films back-to-back-to-back. The appearance landed me on CNN.
- Not too long after, Megaplex Theatres hosted a “Toy Story” marathon alongside the release of “Toy Story 4.” Though it wasn’t a harsh marathon, I learned a lot about community.
- In December, I participated in the Star Wars movie marathon, which included the original trilogy, the prequels and the sequel trilogy, including the release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”
