There’s a possibility that Red Hulk will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he would be played by a character we already know from one of the earliest Marvel films.

What’s going on?

  • Red Hulk is coming to the MCU in the future “She-Hulk” Disney Plus series, according to multiple reports across pop culture and comic book news websites.
  • A familiar face would play the character: William Hurt, who starred as Gen. Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in “The Incredible Hulk,” and who starred in multiple other MCU films, including “Avengers: Infinity War.”
  • Ross appeared in “The Incredible Hulk” where he helped created Hulk and Abomination on accident. If he were to become Red Hulk, it would mean that he continued to work with genetic tampering in order to influence his own biology.

What is the comic book history of Red Hulk?

  • Red Hulk first appeared in “Hulk #1” from 2008. The red version of Hulk was later revealed to be Gen. Ross, who had transformed into the character by the villain MODOK, according to Comic Book Resource.
  • For months, people wondered about the identity of Red Hulk. He had constant battles with the regular Hulk, Thor, She-Hulk and more. No one could figure out his identity.
  • At one point, Red Hulk set up a meeting with Gen. Ross, who had been slamming Bruce Banner for not stopping Red Hulk. Gen. Ross was attacked and left in a catatonic state. So MODOK said he would save Ross by making him into Red Hulk. It was later revealed that that Ross was Red Hulk all along and that they had used a decoy model to make it appear as though Ross was still his normal self.
  • Ross’ daughter, Betty Ross, became the Red She-Hulk for a brief period of time as well.
