“Tiger King” co-directors Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin revealed in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter who Joe Exotic wants to play him in a potential TV show or movie.

What’s going on:

  • “Tiger King: Murder, Madness, and Mayhem” is a viral Netflix documentary that tells the story of Joe Exotic, a big game breeder and owner in Oklahoma. The documentary reveals the seedy underworld of the big game industry.
  • There have been calls for Exotic’s story to be retold for TV or a feature film already.
  • But filmmakers Chaiklin and Goode said they’ve spoken with Joe Exotic about his interests, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
  • Chaiklin said: “He would like Brad Pitt or David Spade to play him.”
  • But, according to Chaiklin, Exotic referred to Spade as “Joe Dirt” — a reference to the 2001 comedy film with Spade played a oddball janitor who, like Exotic, had a mullet.

Other rumors

  • Celebrities have begun fighting over who should play Joe Exotic in a future film. Dax Shepard — the husband of Kristen Bell, said he has interest in playing the character.
  • Edward Norton of “Fight Club” put his hat in the ring, saying he should play the role.
  • Comedian Dane Cook joked that he had already been asked to play the role.
  • And then there is Jared Leto, who posted a photo on Twitter of himself as the Tiger King.
  • Bryce Dallas Howard and Jessica Chastain expressed interest in playing minor roles.
