Former first lady Michelle Obama will be the subject of a new documentary coming to Netflix, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Becoming”— which shares a name with Obama’s memoir that was published in 2018 —follows the tour that Obama took to promote her memoir, according to THR.

The book tour began in November 2018. Obama traveled to over 30 cities across the country, where she spoke in front of tens of thousands of people, according to the Washington Post, which called the tour “the first of its kind for a former first lady.”

“Those months I spent traveling—meeting and connecting with people in cities across the globe—drove home the idea that what we share in common is deep and real and can’t be messed with,” Obama wrote in an Instagram post announcing the project. “In groups large and small, young and old, unique and united, we came together and shared stories, filling those spaces with our joys, worries, and dreams. We processed the past and imagined a better future. In talking about the idea of ‘becoming,’ many of us dared to say our hopes out loud.”

The documentary will be the third from Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions, after inking a multi-year deal with Netflix in 2018, according to the New York Times. Their first project, “American Factory,” won the award for best documentary at this year’s Academy Awards.

Michelle Obama has stayed active in public life in other ways since leaving the White House, including most recently hosting a weekly virtual story time for children and families during the coronavirus pandemic, according to the Deseret News.

“Becoming” will debut on Netflix on May 6, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
