The popular Netflix documentary series “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” chronicles five years in the life of the eccentric Joseph Maldonado-Passage, more commonly known as ‘Joe Exotic’ at his private zoo. It culminates with the zookeeper’s 22-year sentence for animal abuse and an attempted murder for hire.
One former employee is saying the animal abuse went much further than even the investigators knew.
Kelci “Saff” Saffery, a former employee at Exotic’s Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park appeared on “A Tiger King Investigation with Nancy Grace.” Saffery said Exotic had killed at least 100 animals in the 10 years she had worked for him.
Saffery said Exotic would also sedate new mothers so he could take newborns from them to be sold, which is illegal, according to Fox News.
“A ‘monster’ is a relative term. And Joe fits the bill,” Saffery told Grace during the special. “It never phased him.”
Saffery said that tigers would often disappear while he was working at the park, often following a gunshot.
Saffery said Exotic asked his employees to try and lure the tigers to a particular area of their cages so he could shoot them, Fox News reports. Saffery refused.
In an interview with People magazine, Saffery clarified that no abuse happened on the part of any of the animal handlers working at Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park.
