New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson will grace the cover of NBA 2K21, becoming the second of three athletes to be on the cover for the annual game.

What’s happening:

  • NBA 2K announced Wednesday that Williamson will be the second of three planned cover athletes for NBA 2K21.
  • Williamson will be the cover athlete for the next generation version of the game, which will be released on Xbox One X and the PlayStaton 5.
  • “Being on the cover of NBA 2K has been a dream since I was a kid and to be the first NBA 2K21 cover athlete for the next generation of gaming is really special,” Williamson said. “Since the day I joined Team 2K, I’ve wanted to make an impact on basketball culture both on and off the court, and being the cover athlete for NBA 2K21 on next-gen consoles lets me do that. I can’t wait to be part of this global phenomenon and hoop with all the ballers out there on NBA 2K21.”

A little context:

  • Williamson previously appeared in a teaser for NBA 2K21, highlighting the game’s new graphics. The teaser premiered at the Sony event, which showed off PlayStation 5 games and details.
  • Ronnie 2K — the face of the franchise — said on Twitter this is a big day for next generation stars.
  • He said: “Next generation gaming meets the next generation of the NBA! You’ve inspired me every time we have met. I know you’re up for representing the entire next generation as cover athlete as we head to the next generation of consoles”
