Apple iPhones with Fortnite installed are being sold on eBay. Some are even selling for $10,000, according to Apple Insider.
Some context:
Earlier in August, Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store after the game’s parent company, Epic Games, allowed people to buy the game’s in-game currency for a discounted price through Epic rather than Apple, which I wrote about for Deseret.com.
- Apple said (via CNBC): “Today, Epic Games took the unfortunate step of violating the App Store guidelines that are applied equally to every developer and designed to keep the store safe for our users. As a result their Fortnite app has been removed from the store.”
- Epic Games said in its legal filing: “Apple’s removal of Fortnite is yet another example of Apple flexing its enormous power in order to impose unreasonable restraints and unlawfully maintain its 100% monopoly over the iOS In-App Payment Processing Market.”
Those with Fortnite on their device can still access the game. But the game can’t be downloaded from the App Store anymore, limiting new users from joining on their phones.
So now phones are expensive?
- Searches for “iPhone Fortnite installed” or “Fortnite iPhone” shows hundreds of listings for high-priced iPhones.
- One iPhone X with “Fortnite” installed has a price of $10,000.
- “That appears to be on the high end, since others ranged from a few hundred dollars to several thousand,” according to Apple Insider.
You can still play for cheaper than $10,000:
- Just know you can play Fortnite for cheaper than $10,000. Buy an Xbox for or PS4 for roughly $300 and download it through the Microsoft game store or Sony’s library. It’s not an iPhone, sure, but you save yourself about $9,700.
