Fortnite season 4 will apparently have a heavy tie-in with the Marvel Comics universe, which may tell us something important about the future of Fortnite.

What’s going on?

Epic Games has been releasing short teasers over the last few days for its fourth season, which has included hints at character skins for Groot and Wolverine — two characters from the Marvel Comics.

  • Each of the teasers show a letter with Marvel comics characters within the letter. Add all the letters together from the teasers and it spells out the word “NEXUS.”
  • The final teaser, released Wednesday, shows Captain America, Groot and others behind the letter “S.”
  • “The War to save Reality begins tomorrow!” Fortnite said in a tweet.

Marvel Entertainment tweeted out the “U” letter, which appeared to show the villainous Galactus. “He threatens the fate of all Reality,” the company tweeted.

So what does this mean for Fortnite?

OK. So all of this means that Fortnite likely has multiple realities within its storyline, since Marvel has long promoted this idea within its comic book pages.

Fortnite Intel suggests that the Fortnite universe might be the “nexus” of all realities — the center point for all pop culture entities to come together.

  • “This conclusion makes a lot of sense. So far, Epic have included film, TV, and real world elements from different sources in the Fortnite world. People forget that Drift is originally from our world and that several Fortnite elements were found in major cities leading up to season 5,” according to Fortnite Intel.

Epic Games Worldwide Creative Director Donald Mustard seemed to confirm this idea in a tweet, saying “It’s ALL connected. Pay attention. The story is about to kick into overdrive...”

When does season 4 launch?

Fortnite season 4 launches Aug. 27.
