Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy may have just offered a subtle clue about when the next “Star Wars” movie might take place.

What’s going on:

  • Kennedy recently spoke with The Wrap in an exclusive interview about the future of “Star Wars.” She said Lucasfilm plans to reassess the franchise as it moves forward.
  • She said: “Stories have been told within this universe over the last 40-odd years, and there’s now the realization that this is a mythology that actually spans about 25,000 years.”
  • Indeed, the “Star Wars” universe expands 25,000 years into the past, and it has an unlimited future.

Is this a reference to something else?

  • Kennedy appeared to mention video games in her interview. According to Inverse, she may have her eyes on the “Knights of the Old Republic” franchise, one of the few examples of showing the past of “Star Wars.” The video game series took place around 4,000 years before “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace” and told about the rise of the Sith in the Jedi Republic.

Kennedy told The Wrap that Lucasfilm is looking into the future of the franchise by taking a “step back and really absorb what George (Lucas) created.”

  • “That’s what we’ve been doing, and we’ve been having a great deal of fun doing it, and meeting with lots of different filmmakers and talent.”
