Chris Evans is expected to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain America in future projects, Deadline reports.
- No official confirmation has come from Marvel or Disney about the report.
- Chris Evans seemed to tweet about the news on Thursday afternoon, saying, “News to me” with a shruggy emoji.
Details of the deal
- Unnamed sources told Deadline that Evans would return to the MCU as Captain America/Steve Rogers.
- The deal is reportedly for “one Marvel property with the door open for a second film,” according to Deadline.
- However, it’s unlikely to be a new “Captain America” film. Instead, he would return similar to how Tony Stark returned in “Captain America: Civil War” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” acting as an advisor to new heroes.

Evans announced on Twitter back in October 2018 that his last day on set for “Avengers: Endgame” would be the end of his run with Marvel, as the Deseret News reported.
- “Officially wrapped on ‘Avengers 4,’” he wrote. “It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last (eight) years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.”
The Hollywood Reporter reported that Evans wasn’t a sure-fire casting decision when he first joined Marvel.
- “Marvel cast Evans in March 2010 at a time when it was unclear if fans would be accepting of the actor, who’d already played Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four films in 2005 and 2007,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Evans himself wasn’t initially sure if he would accept the role after Marvel offered it to him.”
