“Star Wars: The Mandalorian” star Gina Carano recently addressed the social media backlash that happened after she shared political beliefs on Twitter.
What’s going on?
Carano recently spoke on the Drunk C3PO YouTube show about the “Star Wars” backlash she suffered as a result of political tweets, according to the Daily Mail.
- “People need to be OK with having conversations,” she said. “With having difficult conversations, with having different opinions. What’s wrong with having a different opinion?”
- “Why does everybody have to straight go to demoralizing because maybe they just didn’t think the way you did?”
- “My whole perspective on this is, I’ve seen people get bullied off of Twitter on both sides,” she said. “I don’t like bullying, and If I don’t stay present, which I don’t even necessarily want to stay present that often, I want to make art, art is my passion, but if I don’t stay present then other people win.”
Carano said she wants to focus on her fans rather than people who dislike her.
- “I bring the fire out in people. I’m not sure why,” she said.
Controversy with Gina Carano

Carano faced heavy criticism on social media after she shared her political beliefs. She once talked about voter fraud in the 2020 election, saying that there were fake votes and ID should be required at the voting booths, as I wrote for the Deseret News.
- Later, Carano criticized the COVID-19 vaccine and mail-in voting, too, which kicked off a number of responses as well.
- The hashtag #FireGinaCarano has trended on social media in the wake of these controversies, with people calling for Disney to remove her from “The Mandalorian.” No such move has been made.
