“Star Wars” will soon launch a new graphic novel series set in the manga format as a part of the new “High Republic” series.

  • “The High Republic” is a series of novels and comic books set 200 years before the Skywalker Saga. The series is meant to show the Jedi Knights in their prime before their eventual downfall.

Justina Irelan and Shima Shinya will write the project with art coming from Mizuki Sakakibara.

The series will center around Jedi Outposts, which gives “Star Wars” fans a new opportunity to see Jedis from across the galaxy, ComicBook.com reports.

  • The outposts are located on planets throughout the galaxy on planets that don’t have a large Galactic Republic presence.

The new series was announced Monday at a live event where more details of the series were shared with the world. As I wrote about for the Deseret News, a new trailer for the series was unveiled at the event, showing the Jedi Knights organizing for a major incident that happens at the far reaches of space.

  • The new series does feel authentic like “Star Wars,” though it misses several of the characters from the original trilogy. But it’s definitely new content for the community, which people will want to check out.
