The Among Us video game will receive one of its biggest updates to date with the release of a new map and some new features that will change the gaming experience.
What’s going on?
Among Us — a free-to-play multiplayer game that puts gamers in a whodunit scenario — will add a new map called The Airship on March 21, according to the game’s developer Innersloth.
- The map will come with some free upgrades, which will include ladders added into the game and a new moderation system that allows gamers to moderate comments in the game’s chat function.
- Innersloth said players can now pick whichever room they want to start in. Right now, the game throws every player together into one singular room within each map. Picking your own room will change the game field.
Flashback
The new Among Us map originally leaked in December 2020, Polygon reports. The new map comes as the popular mobile game became even more popular among the pandemic. Back in November, the game reportedly had upwards of 500 million users across the world, which I wrote about for the Deseret News.
- “When a game becomes unexpectedly popular it’s great, but it brings a whole slew of other problems we were extremely new to,” the company said in a blog post. “That being said, we’re extremely grateful for all of the success we’ve found.”
Among Us developers said they had been slow to release updates because there are only four people who work on the game. Dealing with increased popularity limited the number of updates the developers could bring, as I wrote for the Deseret News.
