Disney+ has released the first full trailer of the upcoming “Star Wars” animated series “The Bad Batch.”

  • “The Bad Batch” is a spinoff of “The Clone Wars.” It focuses on a group of Clone troopers who were modified to be unlike the rest of the squadrons. The series will reportedly take place in the post-“Clone Wars” era, which begins with the rise of the Empire.
  • The new series will debut on Tuesday, May 4 — “Star Wars” Day, or May the 4th — with a 70-minute special premiere.

New episodes will begin on May 7. They will be released every Friday afterward. It’s unclear how many episodes the show will have. “The Clone Wars” had a 10-episode season, so that might be the length of this series.

The new project comes from Dave Filoni (“The Mandalorian,” “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”), Athena Portillo (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars Rebels”), Brad Rau (“Star Wars Rebels,” “Star Wars Resistance”) and Jennifer Corbett (“Star Wars Resistance,” “NCIS”).

Agnes Chu, senior vice president of content at Disney+, previously said the series is meant to honor “Clone Wars” fans, as I wrote for the Deseret News.

  • “Giving new and existing fans the final chapter of ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ has been our honor at Disney+, and we are overjoyed by the global response to this landmark series,” Chu said. “While the Clone Wars may have come to its conclusion, our partnership with the groundbreaking storytellers and artists at Lucasfilm Animation is only beginning. We are thrilled to bring Dave Filoni’s vision to life through the next adventures of the Bad Batch.”
