A new report from Bloomberg suggests Nintendo will soon release a new model of the Nintendo Switch console that will have a bigger screen.

What’s going on?

Bloomberg reports that Nintendo will release a new Switch with an Organic Light Emitting Diodes screen (which has to do with how light is emitted from technology), from Samsung.

  • The new screen will be 7 inches long compared to the 6.2-inch screen on the current model, per Bloomberg.
  • The Switch Lite — which is only the handheld version of the console that can’t be hooked up to a TV — has a 5.5-inch screen.

For those TV nerds out there, the new model will hit 4K-level graphics (a common and top level of graphics right now for television) when it’s hooked up to a television. The handheld device will remain with 720p, which “could also be about preserving battery life,” according to The Verge.

Context

Rumors about the new model have circulated for years, Polygon reports. In fact, Nintendo denied rumors of an upgrade model in an interview with Polygon in December 2020. The company said it is always looking for ways to upgrade its system.

When will it come out?
