People are having trouble finding Gina Carnao’s Twitter account, according to a new report.
Is Carano banned from Twitter?
No. Per MMA Mania — a blog of the SB Nation network — Carnano’s Twitter account has been somewhat hidden. When you search for her on Twitter, the account doesn’t show up immediately.
I tested this out using a separate Twitter account and could not find her account during an initial search. You have to move over to the “People” tab to see her account.
- Some people call this a “shadow ban,” according to MMA Mania.
Did Twitter ‘shadow ban’ Gina Carano?
Twitter said that this is actually not the case and that the “shadow ban” concept does not exist.
- “We do not shadow ban. You are always able to see the tweets from accounts you follow (although you may have to do more work to find them, like go directly to their profile). And we certainly don’t shadow ban based on political viewpoints or ideology.
- “We do rank tweets and search results. We do this because Twitter is most useful when it’s immediately relevant. These ranking models take many signals into consideration to best organize tweets for timely relevance. We must also address bad-faith actors who intend to manipulate or detract from healthy conversation.”
According to Twitter, tweets will be ranked on a number of factors, including whether or not they come from “bad-faith actors who intend to manipulate or divide the conversation.” Those tweets will be ranked lower than tweets from influencers, according to Twitter.
Carano’s social media controversy
Carano — a former MMA fighter and actress for “The Mandalorian” — has faced social media backlash in recent months due to her comments about COVID-19, the vaccine and Democrats, among other political issues. Her tweets and social media posts led her to be removed from “The Mandalorian” and Lucasfilm, in general, moving forward.
