Disney Parks said this week that the Jungle Cruise experience will reopen in July at Disneyland.
- The new ride will include “an updated experience that welcomes new characters from around the world plus even more of the humor, wildlife and skipper heart that makes this classic attraction a favorite,” according to Disney Parks.
- The Jungle Cruise experience is still open, but it remains under construction until it is completed later in summer 2021.
- Jungle Cruise will reopen on July 16, 2021.
The new ride includes Trader Sam changing the Lost & Found location into the Jungle Navigation Company Ltd, a gift shop that will exist at the end of the ride, according to Disney Parks.
Disney Parks released a video tour of the new version of the ride.
In January 2021, Disney said it would update the Jungle Cruise ride to address “negative depictions” of cultures, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Disney wanted the new update to “reflect and value the diversity of the world around us,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The ride reportedly have been criticized for having racist undertones. This is similar to what other Disney rides have gone through in recent months.
In June 2020, Disney said the legendary Splash Mountain — which was loosely based on the 1946 Disney film “Song of the South” — would be reworked and rethemed to be a ride based off of the 2009 film “The Princess and the Frog,” as I wrote about for the Deseret News.
“Song of the South” has been criticized for its portrayal of African Americans and use of racial stereotypes, as I reported for the Deseret News.
