Distribution wise, it’s been a big year for “The Chosen.”
Though the show’s release dates, trailer drops and interviews with cast have hit the headlines over the last few months, there’s also been behind the scenes work that has made the buzz around the show possible.
After all, it’s hard for a show to make news if it isn’t making it onto different platforms.
The Angel Original series about the life of Jesus was picked up by the CW following the show’s deal with Lionsgate (the deal gave Lionsgate global distribution rights). And in July, the show released on Amazon. The results so far have been positive.
“We’ve been in the top 10 on Amazon since we launched there in July,” vice president of global distribution for “The Chosen” Kevin Young told the Deseret News and other media outlets in a press conference. “We were the No. 1 TV series this summer on the CW, airing every Sunday night, as they’ve been bringing their audience up to speed with the series starting with Season 1.”
The CW will air Season 2 and Season 3 of “The Chosen.” Every Sunday night, one episode of the show airs and the finale of Season 3 will air on Christmas Eve.
The show has also seen other successes globally.
“We’ve actually launched in 12 new territories around the world,” Young said. “We’ve launched in places well-known and big TV markets like Spain, France and Poland.”
But, he continued, the show also came to Madagascar.
“We’ve had a special partnership there that enabled us to be the first TV show to ever be translated into Malagasy this summer and we launched on broadcast TV,” Young told the Deseret News. “And the estimates are that over 10 million people in Madagascar watched the series this summer on TV.”
Young said the show will continue to launch in other markets as Season 4 rolls out in theaters on Feb. 1. Episodes 1 through 3 release on Feb. 1, 4 to 6 on Feb. 15 and 7 to 8 on Feb. 29. After the theatrical release, Season 4 will eventually release on streaming and apps.
