It’s been two years since Beyoncé won a Grammy for her album “Renaissance” — a recognition that made her the artist with the most Grammys of all time, shattering a previous record held for 26 years by the late conductor Georg Solti, as the Deseret News previously reported.
Beyoncé‘s record is not likely to be beaten anytime soon — especially as she snagged three more at the 67th annual Grammy Awards ceremony on Sunday.
How many Grammys does Beyoncé have?
Beyoncé had 32 Grammys going into Sunday’s ceremony.
On Sunday, ahead of the primetime event, Beyonce earned her 33rd Grammy for best country duo/group performance with her song “II Most Wanted,” featuring Miley Cyrus.
She snagged Grammy No. 34 for best country album — and was visibly shocked when Taylor Swift announced her name. During her acceptance speech, Beyonce said she’s grateful to still be able to do what she loves after so many years.
“I’d like to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted this album,” she said. “We worked so hard on it.”
Beyonce said “genre” is sometimes a “cold word” that can limit artists and keep them in one place, and encouraged those listening to pursue what they are passionate about.
The Grammys concluded with Beyonce earning the most coveted award — album of the year, which now makes her Grammy count a staggering 35.
It marks the first time in Beyonce’s career that she has won for album of the year.
The award was presented by members of the Los Angeles Fire Department, and Beyonce opened up her speech with gratitude for the first responders before addressing her album.
“It’s been many, many years,” Beyonce said with a laugh during her speech, proceeding to dedicate her award to Linda Martell, a trailblazing Black country artist who was featured on her album. “I hope we keep pushing forward, opening doors.”
In total, Beyonce was up for 11 awards this year thanks to her country album “Cowboy Carter” — the most nominations out of any artist. Beyoncé is also the most Grammy-nominated artist of all time, earning 99 nods since 2000, per USA Today.
According to data shared with the Deseret News, “Cowboy Carter” could’ve broken the record for the most awarded album at the Grammys. The current record is Santana’s “Supernatural,” which won nine Grammys in 2000.
If Beyonce had won nine Grammys on Sunday, she also would’ve broken Michael Jackson and Santana’s tied record for the most Grammys won during one night; Jackson won eight awards in 1984 and Santana won eight in 2000.
