In search of a fresh start, William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales, found what could be their forever home.
The couple, along with their children, George, Charlotte and Louis, will relocate later this year from Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor Castle estate to Forest Lodge, a larger, eight-bedroom property also on the Windsor Castle estate.
“The Wales family will move house later this year,” a spokesperson at Kensington Palace confirmed to People.
Forest Lodge is currently going through slight renovations ahead of the family’s move. The couple are funding both the renovations and the move themselves.
William and Kate moved their family to their current home, Adelaide Cottage, in 2022 from their place at Kensington Palace, where they moved in 2017. According to royal sources, the family is hoping Forest Lodge will serve as a more long-term residence.
“Windsor has become their home. However, over the last few years while they have lived at Adelaide Cottage there have been some really difficult times,” a royal source told NBC News.
The source added, “Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter; an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind. This is a move for the long term. They see it as their forever home.”
The Princess of Wales announced in March 2024 that she was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer. The following September, Kate revealed she had completed cancer treatments. In January, she confirmed that her cancer had gone into remission.
She remains in recovery, a process she described as being “really, really difficult,” as previously reported by the Deseret News.
Its been a difficult time for William as well. The prince described last year as being “the hardest of his life,” in light of both his wife, Kate, and his father, King Charles III, being diagnosed with cancer.
“It’s been dreadful. It’s probably been the hardest year in my life,” William told reporters in November 2024, as previously reported by the Deseret News.
“I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done,” he continued. “But from a personal family point of view, it’s been brutal.”
