The Jonas Brothers stopped in West Valley City, Utah, and performed at Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre on Saturday as part of their “JONAS20: Greetings From Your Hometown” tour.
Partway through the show, Joe Jonas stopped to read fans’ signs and take song requests.
One sign in particular caught the middle Jonas Brother’s eye. It asked the band to help in the gender reveal of her baby, or what she called her “lovebug,” a reference to one of their popular songs.
Joe Jonas took the woman’s ultrasound photo. He peeked inside to make sure it was in the envelope. Otherwise, he’d make it up, he joked.
“I’m very excited about this,” he said as he walked away.
But before he revealed the baby’s gender, the Jonas Brothers sang their song, “Little Bird,” which is a tribute to their daughters. All three of the fathers are “girl dads” with five daughters between the three of them.
“You came in the world, my baby girl, beautiful angel / Oh, I could cry, got your mother’s kind eyes / Tryna stop time, no, I could never ask for more," Nick Jonas sings.
The chorus then acknowledges their daughters growing up and one day leaving home and starting their own families.
“Small hands (wrapped around my finger, wrapped around my finger) / And we dance (try to let it linger, try to let it linger) / ‘Cause I know if I’m doin’ my job correct / Nights like these will happen less / So please just keep me in your heart / When you fly into somebody else’s arms, little bird,” the brothers sing.
In August on NBC’s “Songs & Stories with Kelly Clarkson,“ the Jonas Brothers discussed what “Little Bird” means to them.
“This has been, probably, our favorite song as dads to be able to sing for our kiddos. ... It seems like for other people, it’s special to them as well,” Joe Jonas said, per Today.
On Saturday after singing the song, Joe Jonas pulled out the envelope with the ultrasound.
“Beautiful, beautiful. So many little birds out there tonight. Oh yeah, I forgot. Sorry,” he said.
He walked back to his mic stand at center stage.
“Show me the baby,” he said as he opened the envelope. “Place your bets now. Just kidding. You can’t do that here.”
He turned away from the crowd to look at the ultrasound and then turned back to his microphone to announce the gender.
“And it’s a girl,” he said as the stage lights lit up pink.
What the Jonas Brothers have said about fatherhood
Kevin Jonas has two daughters — Alena and Valentina — with wife, Danielle Jonas.
“Now our daughters, Alena and Valentina, enrich our lives in ways we could have never anticipated,” Kevin Jonas told People in 2021.
The eldest Jonas Brother often shares TikToks he makes with his daughters on social media.
Joe Jonas shares two daughters — Willa and Delphine — with ex-wife Sophie Turner, according to People.
“Being a father to girls is so fun,” Joe Jonas said on “Songs & Stories” last month. “Like Nick said, it’s a reason to live life to your fullest. And that’s a wonderful, weird thing that we have in common — the fact that we all have girls, it’s kinda crazy.”
Nick Jonas shares daughter Malti Marie with wife, Priyanka Chopra. He talked to People in March about life as a dad.
“The best part about being a dad for me and balancing things like this work stuff — and this is hardly work — is that you could feel like your coolest self on top of the world, and she just doesn’t care at all,” he said. “She wants to play Moana and Maui with me, and that means more to me than anything else, is that time with her. And just the fact that I’m just Dad when I’m home, it means a lot.”
