After taking a season off, country music star Reba McEntire has reclaimed her red swivel chair on “The Voice” — and she’s looking for a second win.
McEntire has one win under her belt with Season 25’s Asher HaVon.
Now, on Season 28, she’s competing against fellow coaches Michael Buble, who comes into this season off of back-to-back wins; Niall Horan, who won both of his seasons as a “Voice” coach (seasons 23 and 24); and Snoop Dogg, who, although only in his second season as a coach, is popular with the contestants.
Here’s a look at the singers McEntire believes can help get her a second victory on “The Voice.” Following the season premiere, the three-time Grammy winner has two singers on her team.
Note: Season 28 premiered on Sept. 22. This story will be updated as new episodes air.
Manny Costello
It was practically a given that Manny Costello would end up selecting Reba McEntire to be his coach on “The Voice.”
The 28-year-old singer from Georgia made the country music legend emotional with his performance of Craig Morgan’s “Almost Home” — a rendition the “Voice” coach said reminded her of classic country singers like George Jones, Merle Haggard and Randy Travis.
“You made me homesick,” McEntire told Costello. “It took me back to all the greats that I have been so fortunate to get to listen to in my life. It’s just a great combination.
“I feel very blessed to have been in the country music business all these years, so you just triggered something that needed to come out and say, ‘Happy to be here!’” McEntire continued with emotion. ”And I’m very glad that you’re here.”
Although Snoop Dogg also turned his chair around during Costello’s blind audition, hoping to secure the singer for his team, it was pretty clear the father of two was going to join forces with McEntire to kick off his run on “The Voice.”
Peyton Kyle
Although Horan came close a few times to turning around for 26-year-old singer Peyton Kyle, in the end, McEntire was the only coach to give the singer a shot.
So following his performance of Bruno Mars’ “Talking to the Moon,” the singer from Georgia ended up on McEntire’s team by default — and the country music star expressed her gratitude.
“It touched my heart,” McEntire said of Kyle’s performance. “You just knocked it out of the ballpark for me. And lucky me, I’m the only one that turned my chair.”
