Just a few weeks ahead of the premiere for “Wicked: For Good,” NBC is airing a special television event for fans of “Wicked” titled “Wicked: One Wonderful Night.”
The two-hour musical special airing on NBC on Thursday is meant to set the stage for the movie’s premiere, per NBC. It will include appearances from multiple stars from both “Wicked” and “Wicked: For Good” and performances of songs from both movies.
“Wicked: For Good’s” theatrical release date is Nov. 21 almost exactly one year after the first movie’s release.
What is ‘Wicked: One Wonderful Night’?
The special was filmed at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, with the stage transformed into an Emerald City-inspired set including a 37-piece live orchestra. The musicians are led by musical director Stephen Oremus.
According to the official press release, fans should expect “an unforgettable night of reimagined musical arrangements, cast interviews, behind-the-scenes moments, exclusive surprises and maybe even a sneak peek at what’s to come in the next chapter of Oz.”
The dance numbers for the special were choreographed by Christopher Scott.
“Wicked: One Wonderful Night” will also include never-before-seen clips from the two new original songs that will be featured in “Wicked: For Good.” The new songs are “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble,” according to Deadline.
One of the film’s stars, Ariana Grande, said the idea behind the special was to make the promotion of the sequel “more about the fans this time,” per Billboard.
Who will make an appearance on ‘Wicked: One Wonderful Night’?
The TV event will feature performances from both Grande and her co-star Cynthia Erivo.
There will also be appearances from other cast members: Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang and Marissa Bode, according to NBC.
This week, NBC shared a sneak peek video of the special which shows Grande and Erivo singing “What Is This Feeling” a song from the first movie. The pair will also be singing “For Good” from the sequel.

“Wicked: One Wonderful Night” will air on Thursday at 9 p.m. MST on NBC.
The special will then be available to stream on Peacock starting on Nov. 7.
